How it Works
Powder coating is an eco-friendly and superior alternative to traditional solvent paints. It provides a high-quality appearance and extended durability against weather, scratching, and chipping. Unlike paint, which is liquid, powder coating is a fine powder of pigmented particles.
H&R Powder Coating gives you the highest quality products and equipment to produce the best finish. Our process includes three steps:
- Electrically grind your metal item to allow the powder to cling to the material like a magnet.
- Apply your selected color, gloss and finish to the item utilizing special equipment.
- Bake the powder coated item in a large oven to uniformly fuse the powder to the metal.
While paint often deteriorates rapidly due to climate conditions and wear and tear, powder coating is three times stronger than solvent-based paints ensuring your items continue to look like new, longer. Additionally, powder coating can be applied in a “clear coat” that protects metal, or even on top of an existing color to add depth and luster.
DIY Powder Coating
It is possible to powder coat items at home, just as it is possible to paint these items. However, proper powder coating requires a specially controlled environment ensuring the air quality has the proper temperature and humidity levels, as well as absolutely no contaminants such as fine dust particles. In addition, you must “bake” your items in an oven to solidify the powder coating – time and temperature vary based on the item. Using a conventional oven not only limits you in size, but it also offers another avenue for contamination.
